Sheet: go-kart track

Go-kart tracks with tire-backed rails, concrete surface and room to grow

Indoor and outdoor tracks with interesting turns and multiple levels, built turnkey by MGC Developers of East Hartford, CT since 1989.

Chapter 01

Laying out 800 to 1,200 feet of track

A go-kart track is sized in feet of pavement, and the number that matters is how many karts that pavement can carry without bunching up. MGC recommends 800 to 1,200 linear feet and one kart per 40 feet of track. A 1,000 foot track wants about an acre, 45,000 square feet, which is the figure we start from when an owner sends us a survey.

Tracks can be indoor or outdoor, with interesting turns and multiple levels. We have been drawing them from East Hartford, CT since 1989, and the layout is where the track gets its character: the turns that make a lap worth paying for, and the multiple levels that stack more track onto the lot.

A tire-backed rail that gives 14 to 18 inches

The safety rail is the part of the track a driver actually meets, so we build it as a system. The rail is 5/8 inch thick hot-rolled flat steel bar, 5 or 6 inches wide and cut in 20 foot lengths, bolted to old passenger-car tires. The tires move 14 to 18 inches when a kart hits, which absorbs the impact instead of throwing it back at the driver.

Safety rails are featured on every track we build, alongside the lighting and the pit area.

Chapter 03

Concrete over asphalt, and what the full package holds

We recommend concrete over asphalt. It lasts longer, and it is white instead of black, which makes the surface about 40 degrees cooler in the sun.

A 1,000ft Linear Track with safety rails, a Covered Shade Structure, lighting and a pit area starts at about $229,995, and an 18-car kart package is about $73,000. Call (860) 749-4434 with your site and we will talk through length, levels and budget.

"MGC Developers did a great job installing our Go-Kart track. They were easy to work with and didn't let anything slow them down." Mike M., Owner, Staten Island Golf Center, Staten Island, NY
